Neuro-Rehab

As part of an interdisciplinary approach, neuro-optometric rehabilitation therapy targets the underlying cause of the symptoms listed below, working to strengthen the neural connections between the eyes and the brain. This type of therapy focuses on rehabilitating the visual skills necessary for everyday activities and relieving these often-disabling symptoms.

What is neuro-rehab?

The eyes and the brain are a team. If there is damage to either one of them during concussion or neurological insult, vision problems can result. Research shows that nearly 50% of adults experience visual disorders following mild traumatic brain injuries.

Neuro-optometric rehabilitation is an individualized treatment program for patients with visual deficits as a direct result of neurological insults or disabilities. These vision changes can be debilitating and make it difficult for individuals to perform activities such as reading, writing, working, driving, ambulating, and coordinating other daily activities. Unless treated effectively, vision problems associated with brain injuries can be disabling and lead to serious consequences.
